Everyone is chasing AGI. Artificial general intelligence. The machine that can do everything a human can do, across every domain, at human level or above.
That's the wrong race.
The race that matters — the one where value gets created, where industries get transformed, where the before and after become unrecognizable — is narrow superintelligence. A system that doesn't try to do everything. A system that picks one thing and becomes better at it than any human who has ever lived.
Not artificial general intelligence. Artificial specific supremacy.
The History Is Already Written
This isn't a theory. It's a pattern that's played out repeatedly, and we keep forgetting it.
The calculator. In 1961, the ANITA was the world's first all-electronic desktop calculator. It did one thing: arithmetic. It couldn't compose a sonnet. It couldn't drive a car. It couldn't hold a conversation. It could add, subtract, multiply, and divide. And it did those four things faster and more accurately than any human mathematician who had ever lived. Not by a little — by orders of magnitude.
That was narrow AI before we had the term. A system of inhuman precision aimed at a vanishingly small target.
Chess. In 1997, Deep Blue beat Garry Kasparov. Deep Blue couldn't recognize a face, couldn't tie a shoe, couldn't make small talk. But within the 64 squares of a chessboard, it was the most powerful intelligence on Earth. It didn't need to be general. It needed to be unbeatable in its domain.
Go. In 2016, AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol. Same pattern. Narrow scope, superhuman depth. A year later, AlphaGo Zero taught itself from scratch without any human game data and surpassed every human and every previous AI system. It didn't generalize to anything else. It didn't need to.
Protein folding. AlphaFold solved a fifty-year-old biology problem. It predicts protein structures with accuracy that would take human researchers years to approach. It's not intelligent in any general sense. It's superintelligent in one extraordinarily valuable sense.
The pattern is clear: narrow focus, superhuman depth, transformative value.
The Mistake Everyone Is Making
The AI industry today is running toward generality. Make the model smarter across all benchmarks. Score higher on the SAT, the bar exam, the medical boards, the coding interview. Build a system that can discuss philosophy, generate marketing copy, debug Python, and write legal briefs — all at a B+ level.
And the products built on top of these models follow the same instinct. The AI copilot that sits in every app. The chatbot that can answer any question tolerably well. The assistant that's adequate at everything and extraordinary at nothing.
This is the Microsoft Clippy of the 2020s. Helpful, perhaps. Transformative, no.
The mistake is thinking that intelligence breadth equals value. It doesn't. Value comes from depth. A system that is B+ at everything is a curiosity. A system that is the best in the world at one thing that matters — that's a competitive weapon that reshapes markets.
Nobody switched from human-calculated artillery tables to ENIAC because ENIAC was generally smart. They switched because ENIAC could compute a firing table in 30 seconds that took a human 20 hours. Narrow. Superhuman. Valuable.
What Narrow Superintelligence Looks Like
Here's a concrete example.
We built a subject line generator at Adrata. Not a "type a prompt and get some options" generator. A system that combines six layers of intelligence to produce subject lines for B2B sales emails.
Layer 1: Relationship warmth classification. Six tiers, from ice-cold to champion. The system classifies where a prospect sits based on engagement signals — opens, clicks, replies, profile views — and selects fundamentally different psychological strategies for each tier.
Layer 2: Zeigarnik effect scoring. The Zeigarnik effect is a cognitive phenomenon discovered in 1927: people experience psychological tension from incomplete information. An unfinished task nags at the mind. An open loop demands closure. Our system engineers open loops into every subject line — calibrated gaps that the recipient can only close by opening the email. Like Mr. Beast thumbnails. You have to know.
Layer 3: Curiosity dimension analysis. Seven distinct types of curiosity, each scored independently. Incomplete patterns ("3 things about your pipeline..."). Knowledge gaps ("the metric you're not tracking"). Surprise violations ("why your best reps lose the most"). Social proof gaps ("what [peer company] figured out"). The system doesn't just generate curiosity — it classifies which type of curiosity will work for this specific person at this specific relationship stage.
Layer 4: Von Restorff isolation. The inbox is a sea of sameness. Every email looks like every other email. The Von Restorff effect — the isolation effect — says that items that are distinctly different from their surroundings are remembered better. The system ensures that every subject line stands alone in the visual and cognitive landscape of the inbox.
Layer 5: Anti-templating. The system tracks every subject line it's ever generated for an account and ensures it never repeats a pattern. If it used a question format last time, it won't use a question format this time. If it used a number, it won't use a number. Pattern repetition kills open rates. The system enforces novelty at the account level.
Layer 6: Archetype alignment. Different buyer personas respond to different psychological triggers. A CFO responds to risk framing. A VP Engineering responds to technical specificity. A CRO responds to competitive intelligence. The system maps the recipient to a buyer archetype and calibrates every element of the subject line to that archetype's decision psychology.
Six layers. Integrated. Interdependent. Operating on a problem space so narrow — 5 to 12 words in a subject line field — that the depth of intelligence becomes genuinely superhuman.
No human being on Earth processes all six of these dimensions simultaneously when writing a subject line. The best copywriters intuitively handle maybe two or three. A junior SDR handles zero — they write "Quick question" and wonder why nobody responds.
This system doesn't do anything else. It can't schedule a meeting. It can't qualify a lead. It can't negotiate a contract. But within its domain — those 5 to 12 words that determine whether a sales email gets opened or dies in the inbox — it is better than every human alive.
That is narrow superintelligence.
The Tenant Model
One narrow superintelligent system is impressive. A hundred of them, composed into a coherent platform, is an empire.
This is the architecture we're building at Adrata. We call it the tenant model. Each tenant is an intelligence system with a razor-narrow scope and superhuman depth:
The Subject Line Tenant — better than any human at writing subject lines that get opened.
The Prospect Research Tenant — better than any human at synthesizing public and private data about a prospect into a usable profile in seconds.
The Deal Qualification Tenant — better than any human at reading deal signals and predicting which opportunities are real and which are theatre.
The Call Prep Tenant — better than any human at assembling pre-call intelligence from CRM data, recent news, competitor movements, and relationship history into a one-page brief.
The Forecast Tenant — better than any human at reconciling pipeline data against historical patterns to produce a number the board can trust.
Each tenant is independently narrow. Each is independently superintelligent within its domain. And each operates as a composable service within a larger system.
This is not a copilot. A copilot is a generalist that sits beside you and helps a little with everything. This is a team of world-class specialists, each of whom is the absolute best in the world at their one job.
The revenue organization doesn't need an AI that's pretty good at everything. It needs an AI that's unbeatable at the twenty things that actually determine whether you hit your number.
Why This Is Hard
If narrow superintelligence is so obviously the right approach, why isn't everyone doing it?
Because it requires depth that most companies can't or won't invest in.
Building a general chatbot on top of an LLM takes a weekend. You write a system prompt, connect an API, wrap it in a UI. Ship it. Call it AI-powered. The model does the heavy lifting. You did the integration.
Building a narrow superintelligent system requires something fundamentally different. You have to understand the domain deeply enough to decompose it into its constituent dimensions. You have to know that subject lines aren't just "words that go in the subject field" — they're a multi-dimensional optimization problem spanning cognitive psychology, relationship dynamics, inbox competition, archetype alignment, and temporal context. You have to encode that understanding into scoring systems, classification models, and generation constraints that operate together as a coherent intelligence.
This is years of domain expertise, crystallized into architecture.
The LLM is the refrigerator. The narrow superintelligent system is the Coca-Cola. The refrigerator is necessary infrastructure. But the value — the moat, the transformation, the thing that makes the before and after unrecognizable — lives in the specificity.
The Evolution
Think of it as three eras:
Era 1: Narrow AI. The calculator. The spam filter. The recommendation engine. Systems that do one thing well, using hand-coded rules or simple machine learning. Useful but not intelligent in any meaningful sense. They don't understand their domain — they execute procedures within it.
Era 2: General AI assistants. ChatGPT. Claude. Gemini. Copilots. Systems with broad capabilities and shallow depth. They can discuss anything, generate anything, analyze anything — at a level that ranges from impressive to adequate. They're incredibly useful general-purpose tools. But they don't go deeper than the smartest human expert in any specific domain. They match us. They don't surpass us.
Era 3: Narrow superintelligence. Systems that use foundation models as infrastructure but layer domain-specific architecture on top to achieve genuinely superhuman performance in a specific area. Not broadly capable. Deeply, unassailably, measurably better than any human at one thing that matters.
We're at the beginning of Era 3. Most companies are stuck building Era 2 products — chatbots, copilots, assistants — because Era 2 is easy and Era 3 is hard. Era 2 is a weekend project. Era 3 is a company.
The Measurement Problem
Here's the thing about narrow superintelligence that makes it different from the AGI conversation: it's measurable.
You can't easily measure whether a system has achieved "general intelligence." The goalposts move. The benchmarks proliferate. The definition shifts. It's a philosophical debate dressed up as a technical one.
But you can measure whether a system writes better subject lines than a human. Run a test. Send 50 emails with human-written subject lines and 50 with system-generated subject lines. Measure open rates. The answer is a number, not an argument.
You can measure whether a system produces more accurate forecasts. Compare system predictions against human predictions at quarter-end. Track over time. The answer converges.
You can measure whether a system's prospect research is more comprehensive and more actionable than a human analyst's. Blind evaluation. Side by side. Score completeness, accuracy, actionability.
Narrow superintelligence is empirically verifiable. You don't have to believe in it. You can test it. You can measure it. You can prove it or disprove it with data.
This is why it's commercially powerful. A CRO doesn't care about AGI benchmarks. A CRO cares about whether the system makes the number go up. Narrow superintelligence makes the number go up in ways that are specific, measurable, and attributable.
The Compounding Effect
One narrow superintelligent tenant is a tool. Twenty of them, working together, is something else entirely.
When the subject line tenant generates a line that gets opened, the deal qualification tenant has more signal to work with (the prospect engaged). When the prospect research tenant provides deeper context, the call prep tenant produces better briefs. When the forecast tenant produces accurate numbers, the entire organization makes better capital allocation decisions.
Each tenant makes every other tenant better. The system compounds.
This is why the tenant model matters. It's not just parallel specialization — it's a network effect within a single platform. The intelligence of the whole exceeds the sum of the parts because each narrow superintelligence feeds signal to the others.
A human organization works this way too. The best sales teams aren't made of generalists — they're made of specialists who communicate well. A great SDR who books qualified meetings makes the AE's job easier. A great AE who runs clean deal cycles makes the forecast more accurate. A great RevOps leader who maintains data quality makes every downstream analysis more trustworthy.
Narrow superintelligence is the same principle, operating at machine speed, at machine scale, with machine consistency.
What This Means
The companies that win the AI era won't be the ones with the best general model. They'll be the ones that identify specific, high-value problems and build systems that solve those problems better than any human can.
Not generally capable. Specifically supreme.
Not a chatbot that can discuss your pipeline. A system that can forecast your pipeline more accurately than your VP of Sales, your RevOps team, and your CRO combined — and explain exactly why.
Not an AI that can draft an email. A system that can write a subject line so precisely calibrated to the recipient's psychology, relationship history, and inbox context that the open rate exceeds what the best human copywriter could achieve in their best hour on their best day.
That's the bet. That's the architecture. That's what we're building.
Narrow scope. Superhuman depth. Measurable results. Compounding tenants.
The future isn't artificial general intelligence. The future is artificial specific supremacy — applied to the things that actually matter.
And in revenue? The things that matter are knowable, countable, and improvable. Which makes revenue the perfect domain for the first wave of narrow superintelligence.
